It is always sad when the blueberry season comes to an end. You get spoiled on the taste of fresh blueberries every morning in your cereal.
To extend my fresh blueberry cravings, I’ve found that when kept cool fresh blueberries actually store quite well.
In years past I used plastic yogurt containers for storing the berries, but they accumulated a lot of humidity and would often begin to mold after a few weeks.
This year I stored 2 gallons of blueberries in 8 quart jars in a refrigerator in my basement I use as a vegetable storage cooler.
Picked around the beginning of August, I finished off the last jar at the end of September.
The skins were just beginning to get a bit tough as the berries dried out, but were still delicious.
2 gallons gave me enough berries for a bowl of granola almost every morning for about 2 months.
